1. Kindergarten Readiness & Admissions Preparation
Regular 30 minute sessions each week with a Head Teacher
K readiness skills such as sequencing, patterning, number and letter recognition, higher order thinking and executive functioning skills
Explicit phonics instruction tailored to child’s current ability level
Exposure to all critical skills assessed during the kindergarten admissions process, such as phonemic awareness, patterning, reading comprehension, visual/spatial awareness, social pragmatics, and engagement
2. Reading Remediation
Regular 30 minute sessions each week with a Head Teacher trained in Orton Gillingham, PAF or Wilson Fundations
Students are taken through the phonics sequence to ensure there are no gaps in foundational skills
Students improve fluency, sight word recognition, reading comprehension, fine motor and executive functioning skills
3. Writing Remediation
Regular sessions each week with a Head Teacher
Students read shared texts and then are asked to write and reflect upon what they have read via analytical written responses
Sample projects for elementary students include personal narratives, “All About” books and persuasive essays
Sample projects for middle and high school students include analytical essays, personal reflections and research based report writing
4. School Admissions Consulting
Assessment of student and feedback report
Preparation for all elements of the admissions process, including parent interview, personal statements, and school list generation
5. Subject Area Enrichment
We offer additional tutoring services in all core academic subjects.
6. Writing Intensive
During this course, students will:
Gain confidence in analytical writing
Enhance critical thinking skills while working with varied genres in a small-group setting
Take home writing sheets and guides that will be helpful for school
Complete a piece of independent, analytical writing
Receive feedback from a head teacher experienced with all types of learners and learning styles
7. Book Groups
During this course, students will:
Read a shared text selected by the teacher that is high interest but also rich and meaty in vocabulary and sentence structure
Enhance critical thinking skills through literary analysis and discussion
Gain a digital collection of reading sheets and guides that will be helpful for school
Complete informal written responses to the selected text
Read a text the student would not normally have selected and be able to look at theme, characterization, plot, setting, tone, main idea and more
Receive feedback from a head teacher experienced with all types of learners and learning styles
8. SSAT/ISEE SMall Group INtensive
During this course, students will:
Cover each content area of the test, gaining exposure to many different problem types
Gain helpful strategies for “beating the test"
Compile a vocabulary study guide
Be assigned relevant homework assignments reinforcing subject areas that need support
Have an opportunity to troubleshoot problem areas with the instructor
Develop a study plan for the weeks following the course/leading up to the test
Receive feedback from a head teacher experienced with all types of learners and learning styles
